The fall meeting was called to order by John Burford, President. There were nine members of the council and friends present, uncluding: Troy and Lenora Smith of Mt Hood Rock Club in Gresham, Dan Zaiss of Eugene Mineral Club, Taylor Hunt of the Tualation Valley Gem Club, Ellnora & Don Young of the Umpqua Gem & Mineral Club, John & Brenda Burford of the Sweethome Club, Beth & Paul Heesacker of the Clackamette club, and Ted Silver of the Willamette Agate aand Mineral Society.
Reading of the Previous Meeting's Minutes
It was noted that in the July meeting minutes, Don Innes was not listed as a Council Director.
Treasurer's Report:
The clubs account current has a balance of $2,379.66. Recently expense include a check to Beth Heesacker for $7.66.
Old Business:
- Vicki has not made contact w/ the Forest servive regarding the Hemlock site (in Douglas County). Don Young said that the sign present and that people were walking into the site. We need to know the status of this site and Don Young will inquire about how and who to escalate our inquiries.
- The Capitol Show case is exhibiting a display from the Mt Hood Rock Club though May of 2010. The Clackamette club will be exhibiting a display statring in May 2010.
- Dan was asked to deliver the mailing lists/labels to Beth Heesacker.
New Business:
- Dan was authorized to initiate the Council's membership in the ALAA (American Lands Access Association), a independent organization formed by the AFMS with the mission of to "promote and ensure the rights of amateur fossil and mineral collecting, recreational prospecting and mining, and the use of public and private lands for educational and recreational purposes ; and to carry the voice of all amateur collectors and hobbyists to our elected officials, government regulators and public land managers."
- Dan mentioned that Garret Romaine, the author of the of Gem Trails of Oregon and Gem Trails of Washington, had given a presentation at a recent Eugene Mineral Club meeting. This preseatation included a link to a BLM's GeoCommunicator site, which includes a link to an interactive map detailing the mining claims in the United States. He will forward this infomation to the council members and affiliated clubs.
- Dan was asked to update the website and provide more prominence to the regional collection sites that are in dispute.
- A question was raised: How do we representation at the Regional Advisory Council, the National Forest Service, and the Bureau of Land Management's land use planning councils. The Council recommend that each club contact the local offices and request information.
- The Council authorized Beth to expand the newsletter distribution to all club representative and to provide an electronic copy to the webmaster, who will post it on the Council's website.
The next meeting of the Council was scheduled for April 17th, coinciding with the Willamette Agate & Mineral Society's show in Rickreal, Oregon.
