The Summer meeting of the Oregon Council was convened on July 5, 2008, in Madras, Oregon, The meeting was called to order by the council president, Paul Heesacker.
Treasurer Report
The Treasurer reported that there was a beginning balance of $2,353.12. Dues for a new club, Roxy Ann, were $112.50 and $23.70 was spent for pins for the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer leaving a balance of $2,441.82.
Old Business
It was also reported that the Hemlock Carnelian area that was supposed to be open after the decision that it was not an artifact area, is still not open. The Forest Service ranger in the area will not allow rockhounds in to dig. Her supervisor indicates that it should be open but she will call the sheriff if anyone digs. Any suggestions on what rockhounds can do would be appreciated.
Beth Heesacker mentioned that if claims are filed at the end of roads, access should be allowed. The NFMS can help with the cost of claims for clubs that are members.
New Business
The committee for the 150th anniversary of Oregon statehood has asked Willamette Agate to donate rocks. They would like enough so that each visitor during 2009 would receive one. After discussion on trying to get all Oregon clubs to contribute, having a sign to recognize the clubs that did donate, and that WAMS could store the rocks, it was decided that more details were needed such as how many rocks are needed and if tumbled are what is required. Willamette Agate will try to get answers to the questions.
Next Council Meeting
Our next meeting will be at Portland Metro Exposition Center (2060 North Marine Drive, Portland, Oregon), Saturday September 27th at 1pm.
